Christina When our group first arrived at Christina's home, her mother - Cattalina, apologised to us for being so poor. Christina has 'Turner Syndrome' she is 22 years old, only 4 feet tall and will not grow any taller. Christina suffers from anxiety attacks, depression, she is emotional and sensitive, has short-term memory, brittle bones and she can get very violent, she also self inflicts herself. She did go to school when she was well enough and she also had a job, but this did not last long because of her problems. Cattalina is unable to work due to caring for Christina, they are paid 500,000 lei a month from the government (approximately £20) of which 300,000 lei (approximately £12) of this goes on Christina's medication. Cattalina's husband left the home six years previously and does not help financially, he said that he was embarrassed and ashamed to be Christina's father. Cattalina asks the same question that many people do "When I die, who will look after my daughter and where will she go". |
