ALBA IULIA ORPHANAGE

We have completed a variety of projects in the orphanage, including plumbing and electrical works. We have built a covered balcony areas for the children to play in during bad weather. We have supplied beds that fold up against the walls to replace the grotesque metal cage style cots that the children were in when we first went there. The 'fold up' beds also allow a lot more room for the children to play. We have also painted murals and pictures on the walls and stairways, as visual stimulation is very important for children, especially in their early years.

We have also provided cleaning supplies for the orphanage and toys, bedding and clothing for the children.

The Director of the orphanage is Doctor Dan Sicoe, we have worked with him for many years.

Dr. Sicoe has approximately 130 children in his orphanage aged from birth to three years old. Not all the children in his care are orphans, many are there because the parent or parents simply cannot afford to keep their children and provide them with the standard of care necessary for a healthy upbringing. These parents are positively encouraged to visit their children and to take them back when their situations improve. Dan also operates a 'special Mothers' program which is a form of fostering whilst keeping the child resident at the orphanage. Normal adoptions and fostering of the children also occur after rigorous by both the Authorities and Dan.

Dan has always given a considerable amount of time to help us in all of our projects and we would have been lost on many occasions had it not been for his expertise and guidance.
